Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts different trader demographics, liquidity pools, and fee structures, which can cause temporary price gaps. Polymarket's outcome focuses on Athletics winning after 5 innings, while Kalshi's frames the question around Colorado's margin of victory, making direct comparison less straightforward. Additionally, platform-specific rules, settlement timelines, and user bases mean one venue may react faster to breaking news or lineup changes. Arbitrageurs typically exploit these gaps, but they can persist if one platform has significantly lower volume or if the outcomes are genuinely measuring different aspects of the same event.
Lineup announcements, injury reports, and starting pitcher confirmations typically drive early movement in first 5 innings markets. Weather conditions—wind speed, temperature, and humidity—can significantly affect early-game scoring patterns and shift odds. Recent form, bullpen availability, and head-to-head matchups between the teams' top hitters and pitchers also influence trader positioning. Breaking news about roster changes or umpire assignments may trigger sharp action. As game time approaches, live betting and in-game data will tighten spreads, so early movers often capture the widest odds before consensus hardens closer to first pitch.
