Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially when accounting for the influence of biases in public opinion. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like team popularity or promotional offers, while this market focuses purely on the perceived probability of each exact score. However, sportsbook odds can still provide a valuable benchmark, and significant discrepancies between the two may present opportunities for informed traders. It's important to consider all available information when making a prediction.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible exact score. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as profitable trades are rewarded, and inaccurate ones are penalized. This dynamic process creates a market-driven assessment of the likely result of the Argentinian soccer match.
