Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi, often reflect a different kind of information than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks incorporate house edges and may be influenced by public betting patterns, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event occurring, as assessed by informed traders. For this market, the implied probabilities from prediction markets may differ from those offered by sportsbooks due to variations in participant expertise and the incentive structure. A comparison can reveal where the crowd believes there is value, potentially indicating mispricing by traditional oddsmakers.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to several factors. These platforms have different user bases, trading limits, and fee structures, all of which can influence price discovery. Additionally, information flow and trader sentiment may vary between the venues. For example, Polymarket currently favors one outcome at a certain percentage, while Kalshi leans toward another. These differences highlight the dynamic nature of prediction markets and the potential for arbitrage opportunities as traders attempt to exploit discrepancies across platforms. Volume – currently $29,617 – also plays a role, as lower volume can lead to greater price volatility.
