Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts different trader demographics, fee structures, and liquidity profiles, which naturally creates price variation. Polymarket may draw more casual bettors or specialized algorithms, while Kalshi might appeal to a distinct user base with different information or risk tolerance. Regulatory differences, platform-specific incentives, and the timing of large trades can also widen spreads between venues. These gaps typically narrow as arbitrageurs exploit mispricings, but they often persist due to withdrawal friction and platform-specific trading costs. Monitoring both helps you identify which venue offers better value for your thesis.
Key catalysts include injury announcements to star players, lineup changes, recent team performance trends, and head-to-head historical matchups. Weather conditions on game day can significantly impact play style and scoring. Betting action from sharp money or large institutional traders often triggers rapid repricing as the market absorbs new conviction. Media narratives around momentum, coaching decisions, or playoff implications may also shift trader sentiment. Monitor team social media, official roster updates, and pre-game press conferences for developments that could alter the matchup dynamics and move prices materially.
