Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, and can sometimes differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own modeling and to balance action, while this market relies on individuals freely trading on their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise from differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the same data. It's common to see prediction markets incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, especially when new developments occur that aren't immediately reflected in traditional odds.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the evolving consensus. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated and responsive to changes in perceived likelihood.
