Typically, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders on Polymarket, aims to represent the true probability of each outcome, though discrepancies can and do occur. It's common to see prediction markets more accurately reflect probabilities, especially as more information becomes available closer to the event, but sportsbook odds may still offer value depending on individual analysis.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts, providing a dynamic assessment of the event's potential results. The current price indicates what the crowd believes is the fair chance of a specific player winning the Chengdu Open match.
