Typically, prediction market odds offer a distinct perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences, especially as new information emerges and traders react to it. It’s common to see prediction markets reflect more accurate probabilities, particularly closer to the event, as they aggregate the wisdom of the crowd. However, sportsbook odds can still be a useful benchmark for understanding broader expectations surrounding this match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to represent the collective forecast. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the potential results of the Chengdu Open match, driven entirely by user activity.
