Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi for this market, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk and incorporate a profit margin, while prediction markets are driven by the collective predictions of traders. This can lead to more accurate probabilities, as the market aggregates diverse information and opinions. However, sportsbooks typically offer a wider range of bet types. The difference in odds reflects varying levels of information and incentives between the two types of wagering. Examining both can provide a more well-rounded perspective on the potential outcome.

Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi for the Celtic vs. Ferencvárosi match can diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform has a different user base, trading limits, and fee structure, all of which can influence price discovery. Furthermore, information flow and interpretation can vary between the two venues. For example, news about player injuries or team form might be incorporated more quickly or differently on one platform versus the other. These subtle differences in market dynamics can lead to discrepancies in the perceived probabilities of the various outcomes in this market.
