Frequently asked questions

Generally, prediction markets like Polymarket often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering different insights than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market’s probabilities are determined by the collective predictions of individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when public sentiment strongly favors a particular outcome. Comparing the two can provide a more comprehensive view of potential results, though this market represents the views of those trading on Polymarket.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic process ensures that the market price constantly adapts to new information and changing sentiment.
