Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market aims to represent the true probability as assessed by traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, varying levels of expertise among bettors, and the influence of public opinion. If there's a significant difference between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook odds, it might suggest that the market believes the sportsbook is mispricing the event or has overlooked a key factor.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous exchange where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market efficiently aggregates information and opinions, leading to a price that reflects the collective wisdom of the crowd. This dynamic pricing mechanism allows traders to express their views and profit from correctly anticipating the result of the Cassis match.
