Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set odds to maximize profit, factoring in a margin for themselves, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular result. It's common to see prediction markets move more efficiently in response to new information than traditional betting markets, though this is not always the case.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Garakani vs Pigato match. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the aggregated predictions of all participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price will adjust to represent the most up-to-date assessment of the likely winner. The current price indicates the market's implied probability of a particular outcome.
