Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, which can differ from odds set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically set their initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may adjust them based on betting patterns. This market, like others on Polymarket, allows for continuous price discovery as traders react to new information and express their beliefs about the likely outcome. Discrepancies between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook odds can present potential opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's likelihood. The more shares purchased for a specific outcome, the higher the price rises, and vice versa, creating a dynamic and responsive market.
