Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring profit regardless of the outcome. This market, however, is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities, especially as the event approaches. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, risk assessments, and the influence of public opinion. It’s worthwhile to compare the implied probabilities from both sources to identify potential value.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Coria vs Ribeiro match. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This creates a dynamic and real-time assessment of the match’s potential results, based on the collective wisdom of the crowd.
