Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public opinion deviates from the sportsbook's initial assessment. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders attempt to profit from the mispricing between the two. However, it's important to remember that both types of odds are ultimately predictions and subject to uncertainty.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome.
