Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a particular score is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will move accordingly. This can create opportunities for arbitrage or to express a view that differs from the broader betting public. It’s common to see prediction markets as more accurate forecasters of events than traditional odds, especially as the event approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the probability of that score occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a specific score, the higher its price becomes, indicating increased confidence in that outcome. Conversely, selling shares lowers the price, suggesting decreased confidence. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment among traders.
