Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook odds, it could indicate that the market believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, and neither is guaranteed to be correct.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market continuously incorporates new data and opinions.
