Prediction markets and sportsbooks price outcomes differently because they operate under distinct incentive structures. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets rely on traders' willingness to buy and sell shares at prices they believe reflect true probability. Over time, prediction markets often converge toward consensus because traders with better information can profit by correcting mispriced outcomes. Comparing this market's odds to major sportsbooks can reveal where the two diverge, potentially signaling where informed traders see value or where one venue lags in incorporating new information.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous order-book mechanism where traders directly set bid and ask prices for shares representing each outcome. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share reflects the collective assessment of that outcome's likelihood, with higher prices indicating stronger conviction. As new information emerges—such as starting pitcher announcements or weather updates—traders adjust their orders, and the price moves to equilibrate supply and demand. This transparent, real-time pricing mechanism allows you to enter or exit positions at any time before the market closes, with your execution price determined by the current best available orders.
This market resolves around Jul 12, 2026, once the game concludes and the final result is verifiable from credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the official box score and final score recorded by Major League Baseball. All shares are settled based on which team wins the matchup, with holders of the winning outcome receiving their payout. Until that time, you can trade your position freely, allowing you to lock in gains, cut losses, or adjust your exposure based on updated information or changing circumstances.
Several catalysts can shift prices significantly before the game begins. Roster announcements—particularly confirmation of starting pitchers or last-minute injuries to key players—often trigger sharp moves as traders reassess win probability. Weather forecasts for game day, including wind speed and temperature, can favor one team's style of play and influence trading activity. Line-up changes, bullpen availability, and recent team performance streaks also matter. Closer to game time, pregame commentary from analysts and any surprise roster decisions can spark final repricing. Even after first pitch, live betting dynamics may influence how traders position themselves in this market if they're hedging concurrent in-game wagers.
