Prediction market odds and traditional sportsbook odds often diverge because they reflect different participant bases and incentive structures. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and manage risk, while prediction markets like this one are driven purely by trader conviction and capital allocation. In this market, odds emerge from real-time buying and selling rather than a bookmaker's calculation. Comparing the two can reveal where public perception differs from professional oddsmaking, though both aim to forecast the outcome of the first five innings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each outcome reflects the cumulative bets placed by the community, with the odds adjusting continuously as new trades occur. Higher trading volume typically narrows spreads and increases price accuracy. Traders profit by correctly predicting which team will win the first five innings, and the market price converges toward the true probability as the game approaches.
This market resolves around Jul 7, 2026, once the first five innings of the game are complete. The outcome is determined by which team has the higher score after five full innings have been played. The result is verified against credible public sources to confirm the winner. No extra innings or subsequent scoring affects this market—only the score through the end of the fifth inning matters for settlement.
Several factors can shift odds in this market before game time. Injury announcements affecting key pitchers or hitters will likely trigger sharp movement, as will weather updates that could influence offensive output. Line-up changes, bullpen availability, and recent team performance trends all influence trader positioning. As game time approaches, late-breaking news about player status or weather conditions often accelerates volatility. Once the game begins, early scoring in the first few innings can cause rapid repricing as traders update their expectations for the final five-inning result.
