Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their collective belief about the likelihood of each player winning. If a significant amount of money is wagered on one outcome, the odds will shift accordingly, potentially surpassing the accuracy of traditional sportsbook lines. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or varying interpretations of player form and match conditions.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the match result. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and doesn’t reflect external factors or other prediction venues.
