Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If a significant number of people believe a sportsbook is mispricing an outcome, the prediction market may show a different probability. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information sources, biases, or simply a larger and more diverse group of participants contributing to this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants. The current price reflects what traders are willing to pay for a share, indicating their assessment of the likelihood of a particular result in the Benfica vs. Vechta match.
