Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different assessment of probabilities than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the outcome. Therefore, discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, information available to each group, and the mechanics of how odds are determined. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, especially in response to breaking news or shifts in public sentiment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is visible on the dashboard, giving you a real-time view of market sentiment regarding the Quevedo vs Sorribes Tormo match.
