PredictionHero - Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA)

Divergence Detected

Issue: Polymarket limits resolution scope to 90 minutes plus stoppage time only, while Kalshi includes the entire match including extra time. This creates a potential outcome divergence if the match requires extra time to determine a winner.Hero tip: If backing a team on Polymarket, you are betting only on first goal in regulation + stoppage. If backing on Kalshi, you are betting on first goal in the entire match. In a 0-0 draw at 90+5 minutes that goes to extra time, Polymarket resolves Neither while Kalshi resolves based on who scores in extra time. Assess tournament format and team fatigue to estimate extra time probability.

Critical divergence points:

  • Polymarket: First goal within 90 minutes of regular play plus stoppage time only. Extra time and penalty shootouts explicitly excluded. Resolution source is official governing body statistics within 2 hours, or credible reporting consensus if unavailable.
  • Kalshi: First goal during entire game including regulation, stoppage, and any extra time periods. No explicit exclusion of extra time. Resolution appears to follow official match records.

Frequently asked questions

Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price outcomes differently. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets derive odds from continuous trader activity and supply-demand dynamics. Prediction markets often reflect sharper, more efficient pricing because traders have direct financial incentive to correct mispricings. However, sportsbooks may offer tighter spreads and faster liquidity in mainstream events. For niche or forward-looking events, prediction markets can reveal consensus views that sportsbooks haven't yet priced in. Comparing both venues helps you identify value and understand how different communities assess the same outcome.

Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts different trader demographics, risk appetites, and information sets. Polymarket and Kalshi may have varying fee structures, user interfaces, and regulatory frameworks that influence how participants price outcomes. Timing differences in order flow, regional trader concentration, and platform-specific liquidity pools can also create temporary divergences. Additionally, traders on one venue may have access to different news or analysis, leading to slightly different probability assessments. These gaps typically narrow as informed traders arbitrage between platforms, but short-term price differences offer opportunities for alert traders monitoring both venues.

Team news—injuries to key forwards or defensive players—can significantly shift odds, as can lineup announcements closer to kickoff. Recent form, head-to-head records, and home-field advantage all influence trader sentiment. Weather conditions on match day may affect play style and scoring likelihood. Breaking news about roster changes, managerial decisions, or tactical shifts can trigger sharp repricing. As the match approaches, each confirmed detail typically tightens the market and reduces uncertainty. Live betting activity during the first few minutes of play often reflects early momentum, so watching early action can help you gauge whether pre-match consensus holds or shifts dramatically.
