Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own analysis and information. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on team strengths, injuries, or other factors influencing the game. It’s common to see this market incorporate information faster than sportsbooks, especially regarding late-breaking news or shifts in public perception. Examining both sets of odds can provide a more comprehensive view of the expected outcome.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief in each team winning the second quarter. The price of a contract directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. As more traders buy contracts for a particular team, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of victory. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market dynamically adjusts as new information becomes available and traders update their assessments, creating a real-time probability forecast. The current price reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
