Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by traders expressing their beliefs about the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly deviates from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, though this market represents the collective prediction of participants on Polymarket.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Afendi vs. Todiras match. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, effectively creating a probability estimate. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares of a particular outcome, the price increases, indicating a higher perceived likelihood. Conversely, increased selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic process ensures the market price reflects the aggregated predictions of all participants.
