Prediction markets and traditional sportsbooks price events differently because they operate under distinct mechanisms. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and lock in profit margins, while prediction markets derive prices from continuous trader participation and supply-demand dynamics. This market reflects aggregated trader beliefs rather than a bookmaker's margin-adjusted line. Comparing this market's odds to major sportsbooks can reveal whether professional bettors and casual traders view the second-half outcome differently, though direct arbitrage is rarely frictionless due to fees and settlement timing.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through an automated market maker that converts trader orders into real-time probabilities. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders buy or sell shares representing each possible outcome, and the cumulative volume on each side determines the current odds. As more capital flows into one outcome, its price rises and the alternative falls. This continuous repricing mechanism ensures that the market price always reflects the latest information and trader sentiment about the second-half result.
This market resolves around Aug 1, 2026, once the second half of the match concludes and the result is verifiable from credible public reporting. The outcome is determined by the final score during the second half only, regardless of the first-half scoreline. Resolution occurs after official confirmation, ensuring accuracy and preventing disputes. Traders holding positions in the winning outcome receive their payout proportionally, while losing positions expire worthless.
Several factors may shift odds before Aug 1, 2026. Team news—injuries, suspensions, or tactical changes—can alter perceived second-half performance. First-half scoreline and momentum heavily influence expectations for the remainder of the match. Weather conditions, referee assignments, and recent form updates may prompt trader repositioning. Late injury reports or lineup confirmations often trigger sharp price moves. Additionally, if one team secures an early lead, traders may reassess the likelihood of different second-half outcomes, causing significant repricing as the match approaches kickoff and unfolds.
