Typically, prediction market odds offer a unique perspective compared to traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, which represents their profit margin. This market, driven by the collective wisdom of traders on Polymarket, aims to represent the true probabilities of each outcome, potentially offering more favorable odds for informed participants. However, sportsbook odds can reflect different information, such as expert analysis or team news, so comparing the two can be a valuable exercise when forming your own prediction.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each exact score outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular result, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing adjusts constantly based on the collective actions of all traders participating in the market, creating a real-time assessment of the event’s potential results.
