The ceremony for the 79th Annual Tony Awards is scheduled for June 7, 2026. This market will resolve according to the listed person that wins the award for Best Sound Design of a Musical at the 79th Annual Tony Awards. If, for any reason, no winner is declared by August 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or in case of a tie for the winner, this market will resolve in favor of the listed contender whose name comes first in alphabetical order. The resolution source will be the television broadcast of the Tony Awards and the official Tony website (https://www.tonyawards.com/); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
Prediction market odds on Polymarket reflect real-money consensus from traders betting on which musical will win Best Sound Design. Unlike traditional analyst forecasts, which rely on critic reviews and industry punditry, prediction markets aggregate the collective judgment of participants with financial incentive to be accurate. Comparing Polymarket odds to published predictions from theater critics and award forecasters reveals whether the market is more bullish or bearish on particular nominees than expert opinion suggests, offering a complementary perspective on the race.
On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. On Polymarket, the Best Sound Design of a Musical market is priced as a set of outcome contracts, one for each nominated musical. Each contract's price reflects the implied probability that the corresponding nominee will win. Traders buy and sell these contracts based on their confidence in each sound design team's chances. The market price adjusts continuously as new information emerges—such as critical reception, industry buzz, or other award wins by the same production—allowing real-time discovery of the market's evolving view of the frontrunners and underdogs.
The market resolves on Jun 7, 2026, following the live announcement of the Best Sound Design of a Musical winner at the 2026 Tony Awards ceremony. The outcome is determined by the official Tony Awards result announced by the Broadway League and CBS broadcast. Once the winner is declared, the corresponding contract on Polymarket settles to its final value, and all positions are closed. Traders holding contracts for the winning musical receive their payout based on the contract's terminal price.
Several catalysts could shift odds for Best Sound Design nominees. Strong or weak critical reviews of nominated musicals' sound design may influence trader sentiment. Wins at other major awards—such as the Grammy Awards for cast recordings or technical achievement awards—can boost confidence in a production's technical excellence. Industry chatter, social media momentum, and behind-the-scenes reporting about which shows are gaining favor among Tony voters all feed into market repricing. Additionally, unexpected casting changes, production delays, or viral moments involving nominated shows can rapidly reshape market expectations heading into the June ceremony.
