Description

These markets ask which player will be selected 9th overall in the 2026 MLB Draft. Kalshi's markets resolve YES if any of 30 named players are drafted in the top 10, while Polymarket's markets ask specifically whether each player will be drafted exactly 9th overall. This creates a fundamental scope mismatch: Kalshi covers top-10 placement, Polymarket covers only the 9th pick.

PredictionHero - Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA)

Divergence Detected

Issue: Kalshi's top-10 scope diverges from Polymarket's exactly-9th-overall scope. Both use official MLB sources, but the resolution thresholds are incompatible.Hero tip: Kalshi's YES outcomes are a superset of Polymarket's YES outcomes. A player drafted 7th overall triggers Kalshi YES but Polymarket NO. Treat these as separate markets with different risk profiles.

Critical divergence points:

  • Kalshi: Resolves YES if the named player is drafted anywhere in the top 10 (picks 1–10). Covers 30 named players plus implicit 'other' category. No explicit cancellation clause provided.
  • Polymarket: Resolves YES only if the named player is drafted exactly 9th overall. Covers 62 individual player markets plus a catch-all 'someone else' market. Includes explicit cancellation clause: if draft is canceled, postponed, or not completed by July 26, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, resolves to Other.
Our PredictionHero Resolution Divergence Alerts (RDA) are there to help users identify potential differences across platforms. They do not replace or supersede the official rules and description of any prediction market. Users are solely responsible for reviewing and understanding the applicable rules and resolution criteria before placing any trade or bet. If you notice a potential inconsistency, discrepancy, or error in an alert, please report it to our team so we can review and improve the accuracy of our data.

Frequently asked questions

The 2026 MLB Draft 9th pick market aggregates trader predictions across Polymarket and Kalshi to forecast which player will be selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. Traders on both platforms are pricing their conviction about the identity of that prospect, with real-time odds reflecting evolving consensus. This market captures the collective intelligence of prediction market participants as draft day approaches, offering a dynamic view of which prospect the ninth-picking team is most likely to target based on current market signals.

Prediction markets like those tracked here operate on peer-to-peer trading rather than fixed odds set by a bookmaker. Traders buy and sell shares tied to specific outcomes, and the market price reflects the aggregate belief of all participants. Sportsbooks, by contrast, set odds to balance liability and extract a margin. Prediction markets often respond faster to new information and tend to reflect true probability more efficiently because traders have direct financial incentive to correct mispricing. However, sportsbooks may offer tighter spreads and more liquidity on major events.

Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform operates independently with its own user base, liquidity pools, and trading mechanics. Kalshi uses a limit-order book model, while Polymarket employs an automated market maker. Differences in user demographics, trading volume, and fee structures can cause temporary price divergence. Additionally, each platform may attract traders with different information sets or risk tolerances. Arbitrage opportunities sometimes persist across platforms due to withdrawal delays, regulatory constraints, or liquidity imbalances, allowing savvy traders to profit from mispricings.

Market prices will likely shift in response to prospect performance at showcases, college tournaments, and professional leagues. Injuries, breakout seasons, or disappointing performances can dramatically alter draft stock. Team roster moves, front-office changes, and public draft commentary from scouts and analysts also influence trader conviction. Mock drafts released by reputable sources often trigger repricing. As draft day nears, any official team statements about draft strategy or leaked preferences can accelerate volatility. Late-breaking news about prospect health or eligibility may trigger sharp moves in the final weeks.
