Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and attempt to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a particular outcome is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will shift accordingly. It’s common to see prediction markets outperform traditional betting odds, especially as the event approaches and more information is incorporated. This can provide a valuable signal for those seeking an edge.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to find an equilibrium that represents the collective forecast. The market’s liquidity, indicated by the trading volume, influences how quickly and efficiently prices respond to new information. Currently, the market is driven by the collective insight of those trading on Polymarket.
