Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market represents the collective beliefs of traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook implied probabilities, it could suggest differing information or perspectives are being considered. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither guarantees accuracy.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more people buy shares in an outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share represents the probability of that outcome occurring, scaled to a value between 0 and 100. The market’s overall volume indicates the level of interest and confidence in the event’s potential results.
