Prediction market odds, like those found for this market, often reflect a ‘wisdom of the crowd’ that can differ from traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on internal models and aim to balance action on both sides, while prediction markets allow anyone to trade on their beliefs. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when public opinion strongly diverges from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. The efficiency of this market, and its ability to aggregate information, may result in more accurate probabilities than those offered by sportsbooks, especially as the event approaches.
Prices for this market on Polymarket and Kalshi may diverge due to several factors. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts a different user base with varying risk appetites and information advantages, leading to differing interpretations of the same event. Trading volume also plays a role; higher volume on one platform can lead to more efficient price discovery. Furthermore, the specific mechanisms for trading and order execution on Polymarket and Kalshi can contribute to price discrepancies, even when both are responding to the same underlying information about the Yongin FC vs. Seoul E-Land match.
