Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, as prediction markets aggregate the wisdom of the crowd and may be less influenced by factors like public bias or marketing efforts. It’s common to see this market’s probabilities diverge from initial sportsbook offerings, especially as new information emerges and more traders participate.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and trader sentiment regarding the Imamura vs Uchida match.
