Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by individuals freely trading their opinions. Consequently, you might observe discrepancies between the implied probabilities on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks. These differences can arise from varying information access, biases, or simply differing interpretations of the same data, and can be a useful signal for informed bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price, indicating decreasing confidence. This dynamic pricing ensures the market odds continuously adapt to new information and changing sentiment.
