Generally, prediction markets like Polymarket often reflect information and insights beyond those considered by traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set odds based on statistical models and expert opinions, this market incorporates the wisdom of the crowd, potentially identifying undervalued or overvalued outcomes. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when significant, non-public information exists. However, as the event approaches, the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks tend to converge, as more information becomes available and market participants align on the most likely result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a specific outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence.
