Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market represents the aggregated beliefs of individual traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each venue. It’s common to see this market and sportsbook odds converge as the event approaches and more information becomes available, but divergences can present potential opportunities for informed traders.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective prediction.
