Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook odds which are set by professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or focus on specific factors, while this market aggregates the opinions of many individuals. If there’s a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that prediction market traders possess information not yet fully priced into sportsbook lines, or simply have a different assessment of the players’ probabilities. It's common to see convergence as the event approaches, but differences can persist.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares bought for a particular player, the higher the price rises, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing sentiment among traders. The current volume indicates the level of interest in this particular matchup.
