Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can often differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on internal models and aim to balance their risk, while this market aggregates the opinions of numerous independent traders. If sportsbook odds significantly diverge from those on Polymarket, it may indicate a disagreement about the true probability of a particular outcome. It’s important to remember that both represent probabilities, but they are derived through different mechanisms and may appeal to different types of bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each player winning. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and collective sentiment.
