Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small number of professionals, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs about the outcome. It's common to see differences emerge, especially as new information becomes available or public sentiment shifts. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that each represents a distinct form of forecasting.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for one outcome, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly reflects the market's assessment of that outcome's chance of occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated to reflect the latest information and collective intelligence of the traders participating in this market.
