Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome, leading to adjustments based on new information and changing sentiment. It's common to see discrepancies, especially as new developments emerge before the event. Comparing these odds can provide valuable insights into public perception and potentially identify mispriced opportunities.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the market price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is determined by the share price relative to 100; a share priced at 60 represents a 60% implied probability.
