Prediction market odds often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the incentives of participants. Sportsbooks aim to profit from setting lines, while prediction market traders are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. This can lead to prediction markets being more efficient at incorporating information, especially as an event approaches. While sportsbooks may adjust lines based on betting volume, this market reflects a continuous flow of information and belief from a wide range of participants. The difference between the two can sometimes be significant, offering opportunities for informed traders.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Predict can diverge due to differing user bases, trading activity, and market dynamics. Polymarket may attract a different type of trader than Predict, leading to variations in how information is interpreted and reflected in the market price. Additionally, the liquidity and volume on each platform can influence price discovery. While both platforms address the same question, these factors contribute to potentially different probabilities being expressed for the outcome of the NCAA Tournament matchup.
