Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of people believe one outcome is more likely than implied by sportsbook odds, the price in this market will adjust accordingly. It is common to see discrepancies, especially before a large amount of information becomes public or when there is strong public sentiment surrounding the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price fluctuates, reflecting the evolving consensus. The current top outcome has a chance percentage of 50.0% on Polymarket.
