Typically, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set their odds to attract balanced action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments of the game's likely outcome. As more information becomes available – such as team news or weather forecasts – this market can react more quickly than traditional sportsbooks. It's common to see the probabilities implied by this market converge with sportsbook odds as the event approaches, but divergences can also occur based on unique insights from traders.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief about the outcome of the Western Michigan vs Toledo 1st half total. The price of a contract ranges from 0 to 100, representing the probability of the 'Yes' outcome (the total being over the specified number). On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as profitable traders are rewarded, and those who misjudge the outcome risk losing their investment. This dynamic pricing mechanism aims to reflect the collective intelligence of the market participants.
