Prediction market odds often differ from those found at sportsbooks, reflecting the wisdom of the crowd versus the assessments of professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when public opinion strongly diverges from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. It’s common to see this market react more quickly to new information or changing circumstances than traditional sportsbooks, potentially offering a more up-to-date view of the likely outcome.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust, providing a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event’s likelihood. The current price indicates what traders are willing to pay for a share in a particular result, effectively forecasting the game’s outcome.
