Two professional basketball teams will face off, and bettors can predict which team will lead at halftime. The outcome depends solely on the points scored in the first half of the game, ignoring the final score.
The market resolves based on which team leads at the end of the first half of the designated game. If Washington scores more points in the first half, the Washington market resolves to Yes. If New York scores more points, the New York market resolves to Yes. If both teams score equally, the Tie market resolves to Yes. Postponements within 48 hours of the scheduled start do not affect the market, which will resolve based on the eventual first-half result. Cancellations or failures to start within 48 hours result in all markets resolving to a fair price. Only points scored during the official first half count toward resolution.
Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when public perception strongly favors one outcome. Examining these differences can provide insights into where the market believes sportsbooks may be mispricing the probability of various results.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of a contract reflects the market’s assessment of the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy contracts for a particular outcome, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market dynamically adjusts to new information and trading activity, providing a real-time estimate of the likelihood of each team winning the first half.
This market resolves around Oct 9, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the first half winner of the Washington vs New York game will be used to determine the winning contract. The resolution will be based on the official game results as reported by a trusted sports data source. Traders will be able to see the final outcome and any relevant supporting information on Kalshi after the game concludes.
Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. News regarding player injuries, changes in coaching strategies, or even weather conditions could all shift the perceived probabilities. Unexpected announcements about team lineups or key player availability are likely to cause significant price movements. Additionally, large-volume trades by individual participants could temporarily impact the market, reflecting their strong beliefs about the game's outcome. Monitoring these signals can help you understand potential shifts in market sentiment.
