Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Kalshi, often reflect a different kind of information than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while prediction markets are driven by individuals betting their own capital based on their beliefs. This can lead to prediction markets being more accurate, particularly when there's significant public information available. However, sportsbook odds are readily accessible and often more liquid. Comparing the two provides a broader understanding of expectations for this market, and can highlight potential discrepancies in perceived value.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi may differ due to several factors. Each platform attracts a different user base with varying levels of expertise and information.
