Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between the two, opportunities for arbitrage may arise. It's common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than sportsbooks, as they benefit from continuous trading and a diverse range of opinions.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event’s likelihood. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on Polymarket regarding the second half result of the Washington Spirit and NJ/NY Gotham FC game.

This market resolves around Oct 17, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the result will be determined by the official second half result of the Washington Spirit versus NJ/NY Gotham FC match. The platform will verify the outcome against official league data and reporting to ensure accuracy. Traders who correctly predicted the second half result will be entitled to a payout based on the final share price at the time of resolution.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before resolution. Any news regarding player injuries, changes in team lineups, or even weather conditions could shift trader sentiment. Unexpected performance in the first half of the match would likely have a significant impact, as would any major in-game events like red cards or penalties. Public perception and analysis from sports commentators could also play a role, influencing how traders assess the probabilities of each potential outcome for the second half.
