While sportsbooks may initially set lines based on expert analysis and public perception, this market incorporates a continuous flow of information and diverse opinions from traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing risk assessments, biases, or simply variations in modeling approaches. It’s common to see prediction markets adjust more rapidly to new information, such as injury reports or lineup changes, than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing each possible outcome – in this case, either Washington Spirit or NJ/NY Gotham FC scoring first. The price of each share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders believe Washington Spirit is likely to score first, the price of those shares will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of its participants.
