Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk and ensure profit, while this market is driven purely by participants' beliefs about the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the crowd believes there’s value in a particular outcome that sportsbooks haven’t fully priced in. It’s always useful to compare both to get a broader perspective on the potential result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the eventual outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice-versa. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving sentiment of the crowd and provides a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each player winning the Arseneault vs Saito match.
