Prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than traditional polls or expert opinions, though discrepancies can occur due to differing information or risk assessments. It’s common to see this market move independently of sportsbook lines as new information emerges.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price adjusts dynamically based on supply and demand, reflecting the evolving expectations of traders. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive up its price, while increased selling pressure will lower it. This creates a fluid and responsive pricing system.
