Prediction market odds often differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks due to the wisdom of the crowd effect. Sportsbooks set their lines based on models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is mispricing a player’s chances, they can express that view by trading on Polymarket. This can lead to odds on Polymarket diverging from those found at sportsbooks, potentially offering opportunities for informed bettors.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price adjusts dynamically based on supply and demand; if more people buy shares of Lola Radivojevic, the price will increase, indicating a higher perceived chance of her winning. Conversely, increased selling pressure on her shares will lower the price.
